Trauma Therapy

We offer personalized trauma therapy sessions in a comfortable, supportive environment that equips you to cope with life’s challenges in a more constructive way. If you are dealing with or experienced a traumatic or life-changing event such as the loss of a job, the death of a loved one or the end of an intimate relationship we are here to help you find your path to healing. We offer EMDR, Brainspotting, Polyvagal Theory, and Progressive Counting.

Private, compassionate, and non-judgmental support

Trauma therapy helps to overcome the effects, primarily psychological, of trauma. The therapy is designed to restore calm by helping you work through the psychological, emotional, and mental effects of a traumatic experience. The trauma(s) may have occurred at any point in the individual’s life and may have occurred once or many times. The trauma(s) may be witnessed or experienced and can occur in many forms including physical abuse, sexual abuse or assault, neglect, domestic violence, community violence, war, and natural disasters. You are not alone. Research finds that more than half of all adults in the United States will experience a traumatic event at some point in their lives. If you are a trauma survivor and feel your joy and happiness are diminished by a reminiscence of some prior event(s), getting help is critical in your recovery.

Progressive Counting Trauma Resolution

Progressive Counting is a gentle trauma resolution therapy that is not based on traditional talk therapy. This protocol is highly effective when treating trauma, as well as a variety of other symptoms. The protocol especially helps people resolve negative core beliefs so that they can begin to have successful relationships with self and others. By healing these painful memories PC can reduce or eliminate symptoms such as anxiety, depression, guilt, anger, and post traumatic reactions. It can also be used to enhance psychological resources such as confidence and self-esteem. We have seen excellent outcomes resolving trauma and loss using PC with a person who is simultaneously working through their early addiction recovery. PC also has extremely positive outcomes for those family members who are affected by the trauma of a loved one’s addiction. It is truly an empowering approach to resolving trauma for real, lasting change.

During therapy, we will guide you through personalized counseling sessions in a comfortable, supportive environment that equips you to cope with life’s challenges in a more constructive way. Some of the situations we can help you address in therapy can include:

  • Managing stressful life situations: Some events, such as an illness or death in the family, loss of a job or a breakup or divorce, may create anxiety or depression. Kirsten can help you learn to process these situations and deal with their implications constructively.

  • Coping with past trauma: Many life events are traumatic, including being the victim or perpetrator of violence or assault. Counseling will teach you how to handle the ongoing impact of trauma in your life.

  • Self-Care: People with mental health issues often do not know how to take good care of themselves. Therapy can help you resolve this, so you are better prepared to handle the challenges life throws at you.
